The rate here differs from my jeweller

It usually should. The figure on this site is the metal rate alone. A jeweller’s bill adds making charges — commonly 8–25% on ornaments, far less on coins and bars — then 3% GST on the total, plus a small hallmarking fee per piece. Our gold rate calculator puts those together so you can see the whole bill rather than just the rate.

Rates also differ modestly between cities and between jewellers in the same city. On most days the gap across Indian cities is a few rupees a gram.

The fuel price differs from the pump

Fuel prices are set per location and revised at 6 AM. Two pumps in the same city can differ slightly, and a pump just across a state border can differ by several rupees a litre because state VAT differs. We publish the city rate, not an individual outlet’s.

A figure looks genuinely wrong

Please tell us. The more precise you are, the faster it gets fixed:

  1. The city and the commodity.
  2. What the page shows, and what you believe it should be.
  3. Where your figure comes from, if you have a source.
  4. The date and roughly the time you looked.

My city is missing

We publish a city only when a source actually covers it. Inventing a number for an uncovered city — or quietly showing a neighbouring city’s rate under its name — would make every other page less trustworthy, so we leave it out and say so. Write in with the city and state and we will check whether it can be added.

A page shows yesterday’s date

Each page carries the date its figures were last refreshed. If that date is not today well into the working day, a collection run has failed and we are likely already aware — but a note is still welcome, because it tells us which pages people actually noticed.

Using our data

Short quotes with a link back are fine. Bulk or automated copying is not — see the Terms of Service. If you want a data feed, write to us and describe what you need.
